Cottonwood Trail Boardwalk Restorations
The four mile Cottonwood Trail system runs through the Edwin P. Griffin Preserve, and this outdoors asset is about to get a major facelift in 2020, through the efforts of Spartanburg Area Conservancy. Over 60,000 people a year enjoy the preserve's pedestrian and biking trails, natural education opportunities, wildlife, picnic spots, and most notably, the boardwalk.Restoration plans include updating the existing 550 ft boardwalk that spans the wetlands and two trails, new wayfinding signs, and the addition of a covered observation deck. The boardwalk will closed to the public during construction, late 2019 until early 2020. The project is a $100,000 total endeavor by SPACE, with fundraiser events such as the Shuckin' Good Time oyster roast earlier this month. $25,000 will be community crowd-funded through a Boardwalk GroupMe, with sponsorship opportunities.
