Second Chances

In just a decade, Spartanburg Humane Society's Live-Release rate increased from a sobering 10% to a soaring 97.5% of cats and dogs adopted, reclaimed by owners, or transferred safely to other facilities. With 5,000 animals rescued annually, the shelter is a temporary home to 500 animals on average at a time. Due to limited space in the shelter, almost 100 animals are on a waiting list for rescue. Each animal that passes through is spayed or neutered, microchipped, tested for diseases, and receives vaccines.Angel Cox, CEO of the Spartanburg Humane Society, said that while the humane society would never have a 100 percent live-release rate since they do take bite cases from the county and not all are able to be rehabilitated, they never euthanize because of space. Two ways to help the Spartanburg Humane Society include:

  1. Adopt a new furry family member!
  2. Donate daily supplies, for the animal residents in need.
